How does a new patient know if they’re working with the best Canberra dentist?
It can be a little tricky. For those who’ve had less than ideal dental experiences, it’s a decision that sometimes even causes some anxiety.
Understandably, new patients might wonder what they’re in when they change their dentist. This is especially the case when you’ve been seeing the same dentist for many years.
What we’ve found works to put our new patients at ease is ensuring we do these five things.
Check them out.
#1 You’re made to feel welcome on the phone
We’ve all had the experience of calling a business and landed an abrupt person on the end of the line.
In our practice, that’s not how we do things. The best dentist will strive to make every patient, new or existing, feel truly welcome every time they call the practice.
While your Canberra dentist won’t be on the end of the phone taking the booking, one of their team will. You can tell a lot about your dentist by how happy the people are who answer the phone. If you don’t feel welcome over the phone, maybe let your dentist know directly.
And if they don’t take it on board, could be time to find someone else to work with to ensure your dental needs are met.
#2 The best Canberra dentist will care
It sounds cheesy, right: the best dentist will care. Don’t they all? Well they might say it, but not necessarily do it. Here’s how you know if they care.
They’ll call you by your name. Hi Mrs Jones. How are you today? Has it been six months already? They will follow up after a procedure. Hi there Bob. It’s Sally from The Best Dentist. I’m just calling to check how you are after your procedure yesterday. Is everything okay?
And they’ll explain what they’re doing to you, not leave you in the dark. Right, James. I’m just going to check your gums. Let me know if you feel anything.
That is caring. Anyone can say they care. The best dentists actually do.
#3 The best Canberra dentist will take time
The pace of life has accelerated and it’s affected all areas of life. Wouldn’t it be great if your visit to the dentist allowed you time to stop and regroup.
That’s how Bespoke Dental works. We are all about the time. Time to understand you properly. Time to listen to what you need. Time to do things right the first time.
Our approach is a refreshing one in a world that’s rushing. And our patients love it.
#4 The best dentist will take a long term view
Quality dentistry is really a long term game.
Sure, you can make quick wins like performing regular hygiene cleans, whiten teeth during a lunch how, and restore a tooth.
But for teeth that people can have with them for life, the best dentist will have her eye on a horizon that’s further out.
Taking a much longer view, she will consider how your oral health impacts your overall health, even identifying cancer, stroke and heart disease risks by monitoring your teeth.
#5 The Best Dentist in Canberra Is More Than A Dentist
While dental school doesn’t really prepare you for the importance of patient relationships, the best dentist wisen up to this pretty quickly.
Working with patients, often for many years (even decades in some cases), the best dentist becomes part of a person’s broader support team.
Checking in at a minimum every six months, you do get to know people and their families. This makes the whole experience of going to the dentist an enjoyable experience, not an administrative task.
Does your dentist do these things? If not, it might be time to search for one who does.
